My kind of place

There are several reasons why this forum is my kind of place. One is the lack of garbage in the form of foul language and off color-subject matter. Another is the diversity of people who post here. I'm at the top of the age spread, but I enjoy interacting with people who are one fifth my age.

Another thing is the relative lack of mean-spirited disagreement. Posters here can disagree without getting ugly about it. I have said before that you can't insult me no matter how hard you try. I have developed a thick skin after a long career in public education. But I can easily detect when someone else is ruffled, and that, if anything, upsets me sometimes. It rarely happens here.

I can't help but compare RinkWorks with the Cushman site were I also post regularly. Over there, we are all middle-aged or older males. Most have spent their lives working on machines and know a great deal about them. There are a few professionals on the group including a several teachers, a dentist and others who might be called "doctor" in real life. But it's hard to tell, because we are always on a first name basis.

On that forum, there is a lot of disagreement, and sometimes it gets ugly. But we somehow remain friends. Unlike most forums, we tend to run into each other face to face at scooter meets.

One disagreement that never seems to go away is about how to restore a scooter. Some of us believe in keeping them original while others like to do custom work. The obvious answer is that everyone should do their own scooters the way they like them, but sometimes strong opinions clash.

I guess you could say that things don't go as smoothly as they do on RinkWorks.

I will include a link for those of you who don't know what in the world I'm talking about. Check out the pictures.
