State of the Forum Address 2005 posted by Sam on Saturday, April 16, 2005, at 12:57:13:
I love this forum, and I still check it at least three times a day during the week and read almost every new post.
Unfortunately, I don't get to post to it all that much anymore, thanks to a new internet usage policy at work. If I read a message during the day that I want to reply to, I have to wait until I get home in the evening and hope that I have time to get on-line, then remember what it was I wanted to say. Needless to say, more often than not nothing gets posted by me.
In some ways, I'm sort of grateful that the old frenetic five-new-posts-a-minute days have slowed down, because I know that there'd be no way I could keep up with that pace the way I used to.
I remember a couple years ago when weblogs started to become all the rage, and people started posting on their blogs instead of in here. I remember feeling kind of resentful about that, thinking that I didn't want to have to go and read fifteen different blogs to find out what was going on in my friends' lives. I wanted to read it here, but nobody was posting in here anymore. I stubbornly refused to visit the blogs, and only recently did I begin to do so. I found that the weblog really is a better place for all the personal, "Adventures With" type posts that used to get dropped in here every day.
There is still a place for discussion here, though, and I'd like to see more of it. I guess I'll have to get the old brain working again and start trying to do my part... on the weekends, anyway.
