State of the Forum Address 2005 posted by Sam on Saturday, April 16, 2005, at 12:57:13:
I don't see how... if you're in Rinkchat frequently, and AIM-ing each other, and Bloging, and replying to Blogs, not to mention those who see each other in person because you're real-life friends, or dating, or married :-).... that you'd have a whole lot left over to talk about on the forum. If that's your relationship (and how nice for you that it is), it just wouldn't seem natural to save all the "good discussions/debates/intellectual highpoints" for the forum. I mean, why would you?
And speaking of "good discussions/debates and intellectual highpoints" brings me to another point--the feeling that there are higher standards for posting here than on a lot of forums. Not that there's anything wrong with high standards--it's just that they can be a bit intimidating. During the last discussion we had like this, I recall someone posting something like, "well if you can't post something intellectual, post something original; and if you can't post something original, at least post something funny". Ummm....yeah. Leaves one feeling almost self-conscious posting *anything* since it probably won't live up to those standards.
