Murkon's refuge just can't get that speed up!

to start out I can't get the speed on my Assassin and knight to go up. one thing that is stoping them is the iron armor that they have on is -1 speed each. yet even when I take it of my speed goes up to normle but my AC is 2. is it possable to up my speed and keep a good AC???? oh and I tryed light armor but my speed dosn't go up. and another thing how do you get to the pools on level 5????? do have to go through level 7 or is it just that I didn't explore all the level? oh and is there any good armor for a druid that isn't the finest silk??
