I've read both books and while Traveling Pants is very good at what it does (explore death, sex, romance and familial relationships at a teen level)--it just didn't have the depth and texture that Ya Ya did. Of course that doesn't mean the movie version won't be as good or better than Ya Ya, but basing my impression on the books, I'd see it more as fodder for a made-for-TV movie rather than a feature film.
