a) So confirmed. I believe the minimum is 5.

b) Yep. The idea is to choose options that give you new choices. If you are in an area you have already seen, you're basically starting again at that point.

c) The correct path avoids spiders. Seeing a spider shouldn't prevent you from eventually completing the game, though.
