ferry boat rides

I keep thinking about those ferry trips between islands on the Outer Banks. You drive your car onto a big boat and it hauls you to another island and the 40 minute trip is free. Zip. No charge. I suppose it is cheaper than building and maintaining bridges in hurricane alley, but it must be costing the state a bundle to provide that service. It's a really pleasant boat trip, too.
The longer ferry ride from Ocracoke to Cedar Island or Swan Quarter has a small charge, but those trips take hours. To Cedar Island it was $15 for a car and all of its people, but pedestrians ride for a dollar. If you have a bicycle, I think they charge $3 and a motorcycle pays $8. There are still some real bargains around. Howard
