Early years - Camelot's Curse, lost sword

Alrighty, as far as I can figure I've been everywhere I can go and done just about everything I can. I got the sword but the first thing I did was kill the first guard, and the sword disappeared! It's no longer in the pond. Any help would be much appreciated!

My inventory: just the bamboo. Rather pathetic, but oh well.
