The dead beetle: I never got this message, but if I recall correctly, giving Munson the dead beetle triggers an event involving Kepler, so perhaps Kepler has to be out of his office before you can give Munson the dead beetle.
Everything else: Perhaps you've noticed that, after you jump off the cart, you can still hear it for a few turns.
