Weird, yes. Every year we complain about how many remakes and sequels there are, but the fact is that every year this number is larger.

That said, this percentage is going to be skewed when talking about the most anticipated upcoming movies, simply because people know what the remakes and sequels are going to be like. It's only after the fact that people get excited about the great originals. Compare the list in the Reader Poll with those that are judged the most popular at the end of the year, and half or more of those titles will disappear, to be replaced by titles nobody's familiar with now.
