*Slaps forehead* You're right (although I had to replay the whole early years thingy to find that out)
This makes indeed more sense, the road from the desert goes southwest, but then bends back to the southeast towards the mansion. How stupid of me to mix up northwest and northeast...
Another surprise that I found while replaying the game was the teleporter. Because the first time I got accidently teleported back to the same spot, I thought the road looped back to the same place.
