> As for the ceremony itself, I know a lot of people thought Chris Rock made a great host, and the ratings were up this year which means we'll probably be stuck with him again in the future, but I thought he was the worst Oscar host imaginable. I did laugh at, if memory serves, three of his jokes. But I laughed more at Robin Williams during his one minute on the stage. I wish he'd just host the whole show.

I'm not really an Oscar guy, but I watched most of Chris Rock's opening monologue. I thought he was hilarious, but I've always liked him. I know he's not for everybody, and he didn't change anything for the show.

> As for the presentation of technical awards in the audience or having the nominees stand around like Miss America contestants, I can only hope that goes away next year.

I assumed they did that to save the time it takes for all the contestants to realize they won and make their way to the stage. They were probably desperate not to run over time. I thought it looked silly, but it's better than having the show drag till 2 AM.

If you're not big on cynicism or if you like award shows in any way, skip the next paragraph:

Maybe next year they can just use 3 minutes of air time to scroll a list of the winners, and FedEx everyone their Oscar. Then they could show a montage of all the women in ugly designer dresses. That would be a real time saver.
