I'm going to try to beat the current plan by living to be 106. I figure it will take me that long to break even. I paid in for most of my life and have only been drawing for about 9.5 years. Drawing it out has been a lot more fun than paying it in.
I don't know many people who reach the break-even point. My mother paid in for about 40 years and then died less than a year after she started drawing it out. My father worked for 60 years, paying in most of that time, but he lasted just nine years after he went on SS.
The big winner was my grandfather. In his day, preachers didn't pay at all. The church set up his retirement for him. But he took a part time job for a couple of months when he was about 60 and paid just a dab into SS. He lived to be 97 and drew about 8 bucks a month for 32 years. He always seemed to come out a winner. Howard
