FQ1 last gold coin

I've got three of the four gold coins, and i know that the last one should be in the gardens somewhere, but i can't find it anywhere. Could anyone give me a hint? Besides that, i'm also stumped on what to do with the fishing pole. I've been fishing on the beach and at the volcano, and i've tried to give it to the sad man on the beach. No luck, however. If i can't use it until a later part of the game then it's alright, but if i should use it now, i'd appreciate a hint as to where it would come in handy.
