It's not the most funnest reading I've ever done, but Donaldson has some stature in the world of fantasy lit, and I wanted to be able to say I've read some of his works. >
I've read both trilogies three times, and loved it every time. Donaldson has a tendency to be...wordy and archaic with his descriptions, but I found the character development to be absolutely fascinating, and that it wasn't just limited to Covenant. The plot was also interesting enough to follow. I don't think of the Covenant novels as fantasy novels, I think of them as character novels, and I think they work very well in that. The "fantasy" story is, to me, no more than a frame to explore Covenant's development.
