Did you ever write something that made you think of something else? It happens to me all the time. That little yarn about the tractor made me wonder how many people were fed over the years just because that tractor helped raise food.
It spent it's working years on a 100+ acre farm where cattle, hogs, corn, and hay were the main crop. It also was used to raise vegetables. Most of the vegetables were taken to the farmers' market and sold. You can't get stuff that fresh at a supermarket. I've seen corn pulled before sun up and sold by the dozen ears that same morning. Picture a pickup truck loaded with "roastin' ears." Some of that corn went to market as pork. You can't grow corn in that quanity without a tractor.
So if you have been eating corn, beans, melons, peppers, tomatoes, ham, porkchops, beef and such for very long, you might have eaten something that was raised with the help of that tractor.
When you chow down, think about those farmers and their tractors. Enjoy. Howard
