Did you ever play the ZX Spectrum adventure game "The Hobbit"? Or any version of Colossal Cave Adventure?

This seems to be the kind of "maze" that could be found in those games. It has no geographical consistency, e.g. going north then south will not necessarily get you back where you were. But it isn't random either: each location has a different description, and going north from location X will consistently get you to location Y. (Did that make any sense?)

Hopefully that gives you some idea of how to map the area, but if not, let me know and I'll go into a bit more detail.
