/Ap Us history on The pilgrims were actually very in favor of the church ruling over the king-they just wanted it to be their church. They didn't like the Church of England since it was too Catholic for them, so they went over to America so they could found a colony ruled by the church they selected. We didn't get anything close to religious freedom until Rhode Island was founded. /Ap Us history off
