It sounds to me like, for some reason, you're having trouble loading the images. The problem is not with the game itself, or everyone would be having the same problem -- I don't think there's anything in your personal saved game file that would affect the graphic views, other than being at the wrong position in the dungeon level, but in that case you wouldn't even be at Perinn.
