not going for a record

I'm not trying to set a record for the most posts in a brief period, so I'll cram everything else into this one and then hush.

First, there was my phony movie review. I don't think I fooled anybody because everybody on here knows I am prone to make things up. I used to do that in HS English class when I heard those dreaded words, "book report." I would just make up an author, publisher, plot, and some characters and do a report on a book that never existed. It worked every time.

So there is no such movie named "Cavern." I figured that with all of the movie buffs on here there would be someone who would try to look it up.

Next, and totally unrelated, I had a tour group visiting my scooter shop this morning. It was eleven old coots who remembered when Cushman motor scooters were a popular form of transportation and they came to see my collection. It was a lot of fun and I felt like some kind of historian answering all their questions. My neighbor suggested that I should charge admission, but then it would be business instead of fun.

I would also like to include a few comments on that confounded hurricane, Ivan. It has been tearing up some of my favorite places and now it is heading toward some of my friends and relatives.

The people in the Cayman Islands took a heavy hit, but they are probably the richest islands in the Carribean, so they will recover. I worry more about Barbados, Grenada and Jamaica, which are poorer. Many people live there in houses built as cheaply as possible and they are no match for a strong storm like Ivan.

We spend a lot of money helping countries in other parts of the world, but our neighbors in the Carribean are pretty much on there own. Not too many years ago a killer hurricane raked Puerto Rico from end to end and I saw nothing in the media about government aide. Puerto Rico is a U.S. possession and a potential 51st state. Is it our possible that we only help people like ourselves? The people in those island are brown-skinned and talk funny, so I guess they are out of luck.
