a Cushman find

I'm always on the lookout for an antique motor scooter, but I recently made a "find" that is a little different. It was a Cushman dealer. Cushman dealerships started disappearing shortly after the scooters went out of production in 1965, so Cushman dealers are hard to find these days. Actually, Bill went into the military and left the Cushman business about 1950. He saw that now famous picture of me sitting in a rocking chair while working on a Cushman. I guess it brought back memories, so he gave me a call and then a couple of days ago, he dropped by to see my collection.

I'll never forget the look on his face when he stepped into my shop and saw my scooters. He was a kid again. Now he is looking for a Cushman of his own.

People like Bill are a great resource for those of us who are interested in that small part of history that we call The Cushman Era. They all remember different things about the time when Cushman scooters were a popular form of transportation in the U.S.

Naturally, I invited him to attend a scooter meet that is being held in Hiawassee, Georgia, next month. He should find a scooter there. At 74, Bill still has a few good scooter years left. He will enjoy them.
