The list as I understand it was not to denigrate the human experiance but to prove that one man or woman could change the direction of human events.
The idea that one person can stand admist the madness that is humanity and reshape the world (for good or evil) is central to the American Dream and I think anything that champions it (even with mistakes like the whole Princess Di thing) is a good thing.
