First you may want to try to get into Kepler's office. Remember that there are two ways to get in.

Also you can explore more of the mines than you have. There's a spot where you can jump from a moving mine cart and still hear it rumbling along without you. Nearby there is another stretch of railway that you can't normally get to by cart. If you're quick enough, you can catch the cart again.
