Even if losing points of vitality concerns you, by that time you're usually earning more stat points levelling up than you can even use.
Don't forget RESTORE. Or the bigger, wider-ranging version of that spell. Those have helped me cut down on medical bills, and have also helped to cut down on the need to use RESURRECT.
