Did you miss the discussion on having the power to heal? I also figure that if I had the teleportation ability, I would use it to help others as well -- just not spend my whole life doing so. Unless I got the Spider-Man guilt trip laid on me. But yeah, I'd gladly teleport into the occasional burning building or sinking ship to save people. I'm sure I'd find other ways to make it help others, too.
