My only experience with school competitions was frustrating. I was on some sort of interschool team and questions had to be answered about various books as a team, so even when you knew the answer personally, you were up against trying to convince the dorks on your own team that your answer was the correct one. My team blew it when we had to match up character names with book titles and *some* guy with the brains of a spider refused to believe me that The Last Battle was by C. S. Lewis and had a character in it called Jewel. So I sat there cringing in shame as my team said The Last Battle was a spy story by Alistair Maclean. For some reason I never entered any competitions after that.
