Ray Charles was a great singer because he had "dat feeling." And he paid attention to the words of his songs. That is why he sounded great.

Another singer comes to mind who I thought had a unique style with popular songs and came out sounding great. That singer was Eileen Farrell, who crossed over from opera to pop after a much too short career at the Metropolitan Opera. Sadly, we lost her in 2002, as well as her talented music director, Loonis McGlohon. I'm so glad Reference Recordings talked her into doing all those pop albums late in her career.

I have dedicated my web page to both of these legendary musicians. They contributed so much to the music that America loves to sing.
