need help identifying a game

Ok, those of you that played computer games in the eighties, I need some help.

My co-worker here is trying to find a game he used to play on the Apple II. I don't know if it was ever available for other platforms, but it might have been. It was mostly text-based fantasy adventure, but it did have a line-drawing top-down map of the game area. You started out in a village and had to move along a particular route to get to a castle at the end. One little piece of the game involved running across a little line on the map, and it turned out to be a ravine, so you had to figure out how to get across it, using a ladder or something.

The right side of the screen had some kind of stats, and the bottom was the text descriptions of the area and where you type the commands in; the rest of the screen was the top-down map view. Again, it was very primitive.

Anybody know what I'm talking about? It's possible that this game was never a commercially available one and just something a friend of his coded up himself, but in case it's a real, published game, I thought I'd ask and see if anybody knew what I was talking about.

Thanks.
