I wonder. (thoughtful pause) If the price of gas keeps going up, will used motor scooters become more valuable?

I heard the the sales of new SUV's has slowed dramatically, and prices of used SUV's are beginning to fall. I suppose the price of a small used car is climbing with the demand and some people may even be looking at fuel milage when buying a new vehicle.

I can remember an earlier gas price spike when people were going out into the back yard and reviving those abandoned 4-cylinder econoboxes and putting them back on the road. Wind whistled in the rust holes, some smoked a little, the tires appeared unsafe, but by golly they were out there traveling 35 miles on a gallon of gas.

With the high fuel costs these days, you can save a lot of money by driving 5 mph slower, by turning off the AC, by inflating the tires about 3 pounds over the recommended pressure, by unloading all of the junk in the trunk, and by slowing down and speeding up gradually. But who is going to do any of that? This is America and runaway consumption is a way of life.
