We live about a mile off US 11, but when they had a yardsale along that historic highway, I had to get involved. People were driving across several states yard sailing.(People who go to yard sales are called yard sailors, right?) So we stuck a sign out on the highway, and Friday and Saturday made us $300. We shut down early each afternoon, so there was not a lot of time involved.
It's not just about money. I always see former students and old friends, sometimes for the first time in years. But the biggie is the space you have when you finish. I no longer have to store an unused riding mower, an outgrown highchair and stroller, an old compressor that needed work, a toy wagon that I had intended to restore, but didn't have time. Also some smaller items like a bottle capper, some ceramic planters, old fishing tackle, a camp stove, plastic toys. . . . the list goes on and on.
All of the money goes to a worthy cause. I plan to fill up the car and truck with gas, and if there is enough money left, maybe even the gas can that I use to fill the lawnmower. Howard
