It was news to me too, Vida. At one time, I taught English, but I have never been one to rigidly follow rules. I use expressions like "ain't" and "I reckon," and I tend to use the salt and pepper method of placing commas in sentences. I have Microsoft Word for word processing and I think I drive it crazy. After I type a page it is covered with those little colorful, squiggly lines.
But back to my sentence where I put the question mark outside the quotes -- That was the only way I could make it sound the way I intended for it to sound. Howard
