There were some Spanish speakers in the Portuguese class I took, and they had the hardest time learning a language that looked so similar and yet sounded so different. The prof was Brazilian.

It seems that people who speak Portuguese well have little or no trouble with Spanish, Italian or French. This is just my personal experience, but it makes me think that perhaps Portuguese is one of the hardest romance languages to learn.
