Yeah, Portuguese is similar, and French isn't too different either. In French, though, the tense in which they are similar has largely gone out of fashion. French has too many tenses.

But think about English. We often use the verb "to go" to mean things other than "to relocate", and some of them aren't too far from "to be".

"He went all weird on me"
