This will sound silly to people who don't have pets, but we're having a three-generation birthday party in a few weeks where four generations of our family will be in attendance. The youngest "generation", and the youngest birthday boy, is our mini schnauzer, Grimmy. Grimmy's birthday, mine, my mom-in-law's and my sister-in-law's are all within a week. My grandparents are invited, and they'll be the oldest generation.
Considering that (standard) schnauzers are considered "the dog with the human brain", it's actually less weird to think this way than it would be for a different breed of dog. Grimmy really does think of himself as part of our family.
