Favorite music. posted by Meh on Saturday, April 17, 2004, at 15:24:12:
You've never heard of it. It's cowboy music, and no, it is not country. I guess I like it because the folks who play it are so dang talented; you'd never hear anyone else make a fiddle chirp like a bird or toot like a train. Or yodel so fast it seems like their adam's apple is going at 300mph. I love all the old singers and bands like Sons of the Pioneers, but there are some great newer bands that play in the old style, like Riders in the Sky, the Flying W Wranglers, and Sons of the San Joaquin. "Chant of the Wanderer" is a beautiful Sons of the Pioneers' song, though the Wranglers' "Somewhere in Montana" is probably my favorite.
I like some bluegrass, too; mostly the instrumentals. "Foggy Mountain Breakdown" is one of my favorites.
And I listen to country music sometimes, but I don't like most of it. The older stuff is better than the newer stuff, IMHO. I can't stand Rascal Flatts, Lone Star, or Toby Keith, except for his "American Soldier" song. Too whiny. Garth Brooks is OK, and I *love* Josh Turner. Randy Travis has some good songs, and I can never get Pin Monkey's "Let's Kill Saturday Night" out of my head. I don't like any of the female singers; for the most part, their voices are too high. I'm really sensitive to high-pitched voices, maybe because mine is so low (for a girl, anyway).
