GOA - diving mask?

I am totally stuck near the beginning of GOA. I managed
the well bit. I notice that nearly every other newbie "stuck
near beginning" has managed to find a diving mask and life
preserver. I can't find them anywhere :(

This is what I have:

Free Trial Sword of Failing
Ticket
Dead Fish
Rope
Magic Armor of Magic
Food Rations
Bucket
