I think the elemental bonuses unbalance the game too much, and don't leave enough of a role for ordinary weapons. Why would anyone accumulate 30 Str when they could just buy a spork and load it up with elemental bonuses and not have to worry about their opponent's defensive stats? The new way will force people to give a bit more thought to balancing their characters' attributes.
