Monster Arena - possible bug or unfairness

I noticed that in some of my qualifying fights (actually, in all of them I think) two of the computer-generated opponents started out attacking the same character of mine. This doesn't seem fair, since each of my characters has to attack a different character of theirs, at least until someone dies.

I'm assuming this can only happen in qualifying, because in the elimination the opposing human has to make the same choices I have to make. But still, it's not good for those of us who want to accumulate nice stuff for our fighters, and have to make do with less than $500 per fight.
