Try to track down every square you step onto and make a map. Or if you have a sufficiently advanced wizard, use the MAP spell.
Remember that all levels wrap around so you might be seeing the same locations twice if you just keep going in the same direction.
Oh, and level 3 can actually be skipped entirely.
