It's March when. . .

I've been spending some time outside. March came in rather quietly. It got warm and sunny, so I went out to rake up a few bushels of hickory nuts for the compost pile. That little snake came all the way out of his hole and caught a little sun. I walked by several times and he seemed to get used to me. At least he didn't panic. As soon as his den gets in the shade and it begins to cool down he goes back under ground.
Then day before yesterday a front came through and brought us a humdinger of a wind storm. It was blowing 30 - 40 miles per hour with gusts to about 50. It lasted over an hour. I have a theory that March wind has a purpose in the scheme of things. It clears all the dead limbs and other debris out of the trees to make way for the new growth. So I wind up with a pickup load of sticks scattered over the yard. That doesn't count an oak limb that was 20 feet long and about 5 inches around on the fat end. It fell over by the garden and I had to get the chain saw and cut it up. It took two days to clean up the mess.
Then today they forecast snow. Didn't happen. In fact the sun came out and it got up to 50. Too cool for the snake, but great for yard work. Finally, about 3 or 4 o'clock, we got precipitation, but it was just cold rain. I guess it put out my stick-pile fire over by the garden. Higher elevations all around us got a little snow and the mountains actually had accumulations, but I guess (hope) it was winter's last gasp.
Spring has definately arrived in Cochran, Georgia, just in time for Scooter Week, which begins this weekend. Dry weather would be nice. last year, half of the meet site flooded, and we were camping in a tent. Fortunately, we have been camping for a lot of years and knew to pitch the tent on high ground. Some of the motor homes were up to the hubcaps.
Well, I've rambled from snakes to hubcaps. Howard
