I was out pulling the aerator around with the lawn mower yesterday when I saw a black snake sticking his head up out of a hole in the ground. They do that for a while just to see if the coast is clear, and then they come on out. I guess the 73 degree weather woke him up from hibernation. When I went by on the lawn mower, he pulled his head back in, and I wonder if he ever came back out. He would be better off sleeping in for a while because the weather is going to turn cool for a few days. Sometimes snakes venture out too early and get caught by a cold snap. As they get colder and colder they get slower and slower. I've seen them take hours to move just a few yards when the temperature was in the 40's.
