Most of the surprises in this year's Oscars were in the nomination round. When Pe'er Jackson got up to accept the Best Picture nod, he was saying exactly what I was thinking: They actually gave awards to a fantasy movie.

The other big surprise this year was how they recognized a comedy role for a Best Actor nod. Granted, it was an action-comedy, but still -- such a humorous acting job was recognized as good acting. Now that really shocked me.

Fantasy and comedy represented in the big six awards. Now if someone would just do a really good science fiction movie...
