Stuck once again

I can't seem to get the hammer or the nail, here's my inventory

20 Bronze Coins
Guard's Sword
Rope
Key of Opening
Crate

10 Red Gemstones
Stone of Strengthening
Tinderbox
Portrait
Blanket

6 Apples
Food Rations
Torch
Clear Focus Stone
Map

I know I have to go back home to get the nail, but I can't seem to find it anywhere in the forest or the Village of Boredom. I would also like to get the note for the elves, but I don't know how. And I can't figure out how to get the picture in the banquet hall. Thanx in advance.
