Just for the fun of it, I think I'll stir the pot a little. Somehow, a recent tread about an unusual shirt, contained a lot of talk about wine.
I suppose a little wine is harmless enough, but there is a problem. It contains an addictive chemical called alcohol. Alcohol impairs judgment so that a user may not know when a little wine has become too much. Too much tends to make people think they are having a good time when in reality, they are making fools of themselves. Up to a point, this is OK, because wine is usually consumed along with other people who are doing the same thing. So everybody thinks everybody is having a good time.

Try this. Try being the only person in the room who is not having wine. Then you will see what is really going on. It will be funny at first, but it usually doesn't stop there. In a gathering of drinkers, there is likely to be one or more who will become obnoxious. Still, if everybody is impaired to some degree, they may not notice it and little immediate harm is done.

But alcohol is addictive, and a fair percentage of people can't handle it. They become alcoholics, and that will ruin their life and the lives of people around them. Especially their family. Intelligent, tallented people have been known to become so addicted to alcohol that nothing else is important to them. Not their job, not their family, not their future. And if you have never seen that happen, you are not paying attention.

Did you know that it is possible to have a good time without alcohol? The best part is that the next day you can remember how much fun you had.

Alcohol is expensive. The government taxes the heck out of it. The people who make it and sell it often become rich. If you are cheap like me, you will enjoy keeping that money in your own pocket.
