I too am intrigued by the notion of a female samurai. For too long the male-dominated Hollywood culture has covered up the amazing role of female samurai in feudal Japan.
For instance, Emperor Meiji, one of the most controversial and important emperors in the country's history, was actually a woman in disguise. Ditto legendary samurai Miyamoto Musashi, author of "A Book of Five Rings."
More recently, the female director Akira Kurosawa secretly worked as a man in post-War Japan, directing her niece, Toshiro Mifune, in some of the greatest samurai films. Again, due to the overly masculine nature of the movie industry, this has been kept an official secret.
I just hope that in the future we get some films about other ignored women, such as female submarine captains in the U.S. Navy or some the women who have served as this great nation's president.
