50-year-old grease

I'm working on the wheel bearings, of a 1953 model motor scooter and I want to go on the record as saying there isn't anything as stubborn as 50-year-old grease. It sticks to metal like a hard crust that has to be scraped off. It turns your hands black, stains clothes, spots the floor, clogs drains, and smears all over the paint. I think I have some small grease specks on my glasses. Even my skinned knuckles are greasy. If I track any of that stuff into the house, it gets on the carpet and I wind up in the dog house. That's figurative. We don't have a dog, but if we did, it would be mad at me too for tracking grease into its house.
Thank goodness I have a good supply of degreasers. Having vented about that, I'm headed back to the shop. Howard
