I boycotted that movie in the theater because it was split into two volumes, seemingly solely to sell twice the number of tickets. I didn't want to support turning a move like that into a precedent.
Stephen and I talked about that, and he brought up Lord of the Rings and the Matrix sequels, but the comparison isn't valid at all. The two volumes of Kill Bill put together would run approximately 180 minutes, which is somewhat long but hardly an unreasonable running time. And it was intended to be a single movie through almost the whole of its production and then was split seemingly arbitrarily to make it more marketable. The Lord of the Rings trilogy, on the other hand, was designed to be a three-part film trilogy from its inception and could scarcely have been released to theaters in a single nine hour chunk anyhow. The story of the Matrix sequels falls somewhere in the middle, but again, the division between the two wasn't really a marketing move.
Anyway, I'll catch the DVD when it comes out. Actually, I might wait until Vol. II hits DVD first.
