Annoying gardener in Brackly Hall

It's me again,I've done everything else possible (I think) and the gardener will NOT go away. I know what I need to do and I know where I need to dig, but he will not leave! LOL How can I make him go away?
Here's my inventory if it helps:
Acorns
Lavender
Credit Note
Money
Iron Key
Silver Key
Gold Key
Map of Brackly Hall
Map of Maze

by the way I have found the laboratory and checked everything out. I need a cog but I know where it is....
