I water skied once in 1956 and have climbed several mountains by car. Maybe I should write a book about that. > > Howard > > Howard, go for it! Really. The book could be titled "An Armchair Guide to Enjoying Your Sixties" or "Enjoying Your Sixties without Standing Up". Chapters would include activities from the vantage point of a car seat, a boat seat, a bus seat, a porch swing, a roller coaster seat (haha), etc. > > There are drive-through eateries and stores to check out. And over the weekend I saw a drive-through police station! Now that one was baffling. A sign blocked the driveway and said "Drive-in window closed", perhaps because it was the weekend? What on earth would one do at a drive-through police station???? > > So Howard, instead of encouraging you to bike a little more, walk a little more, I'm suggesting reasons to sit more... > > Jul(who doesn't have age as an excuse to sit but sits anyway)ia
It's too late for that book title, I just turned 70. Another golden opportunity missed. Actually I was just kidding about the short bicycle ride. I often go several blocks on one.
I walk a lot too, but not up mountains. One time when I was still in my sixties, I went (by car) up to the top of a 10,000 foot mountain. However the parking lot was a long flight of steps below the actual summit, so off I went up the steps. It was about 30 steps and then a landing, then 30 more and another landing, etc. until about 4 landings above the parking lot, I got to the actual mountain top. But on the way up I noticed people who were standing to catch their breath at each landing. I didn't stop, but went straight to the top. On the way back down, I started looking at the winded people on the landings and they all looked younger than me, and they were all smokers. (You can tell if you know what to look for.) High altitude is tough on smokers.
I find that I really like porch swings, and armchairs, but I'm a pretty active old guy. I just don't overdo it. Howard
