And that is the fully the point I was hoping you had intended to make, and one I fully agree with. Hence the devil's advocateness.

Despite whatever Free Staters claim is the "true" intent or motivation of the movement, it looks to *everybody* on the outside, and even some who were almost on the inside (me), to be nothing more than a euphemistic invasion.

I also wonder if they expected any sort of backlash from locals who wouldn't appreciate 20,000 "foreigners" showing up and "taking over", regardless of ideological agreement.
